PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA 7/11/2007

First baseman Albert Pujols (CLE) went deep in the first inning and had 3 RBI as

the American League All-Stars outscored the National League All-Stars 8 to 3 in
the 2007 SPIBL All-Star Game.

The American League took the lead off Roy Halladay (KCN) in the first inning as
they scored 4 runs on 3 base hits.  Teammates Alfonso Soriano and Jose Reyes (HOU)

started the inning with back-to-back singles and Joe Mauer (PIT) walked to put the

NL in early trouble.  The National League was out-hit by the American League, 11

hits to 4.

The AL scored all of their runs over the first three innings. MVP Albert Pujols
capped the 1st inning with a big fly.  In the 2nd inning, Orlando Hudson (MIL)
craked a double and Jose Reyes recorded his 2nd hit with a homerun of his own. The
AL kept the pressure on in the 3rd by loading the bases.  Troy Glaus (LAS) hit a
sacrifice fly and Luis Castillo (CHA followed with a timely single to make the
score 8-0 at the time.

The NL scored all of their runs in the 6th inning capitalizing on some Pedro
Martinez (CHA) and Justin Verlander (SFS) wildness.  Bob Abreu (ANA), who started
last year or the AL, walked to start the rally. After a Miguel Cabrera (PHI)
double, Jermaine Dye (PHI) struck out. Carlos Guillen, the third straight Phanatic
to bat, walked. Chase Utley (ANA) then walked to force in a run and Josh Bard (COL)
followed with a two-run single. Unfortunately for the NL, that was all the offense
against a dominant AL pitching staff.

The winning pitcher was Johan Santana (CHA) who allowed no hits in 2 innings while

striking out six. He walked just one. This was Santana's 2nd straight year as AL

starter. Joe Nathan (CHA) provided the AL club with solid "Blue Knight bookends"

while pitching a scoreless 9th inning.

Roy Halladay was the the losing pitcher.  He surrendered 4 runs and 3 hits in one

inning.

The hometown crowd in Pittsburgh received a big thrill when their young ace Rich
Hill entered the game in the 5th inning. Pitching on high adrenaline, Hill quickly
retired heavy hitters Lance Berkman (FLN), Carl Crawford (KCN), and Torii Hunter
(PHI), two of them on strikes, and left to a standing ovation.

NL manager Jim Kies (TOR) was very impressed with the performance of the opposing
starter, Santana. "Talk about lights out," he said in the postgame press conference.
"He was not only the winning pitcher, but he struck out six batters in two innings,
allowing no hits and a walk. That really set the tone for their side."

Zack Weingartner (SDB) managed the victorious AL side and had this to say: "Jim
(Kies) might be back to manage the All-Stars again next year, but the Black Sox are
are just happy to be around one time.  Maybe the 2017 game will have us back!"
